History
6th November 2007. First ever meeting between the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and a Pope. In this historic Vatican meeting, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz shared his vision of an Initiative for Interfaith Dialogue with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, who responded positively.

Generate, develop and disseminate knowledge in the area of Interreligious and Intercultural dialogue. Cultivate and promote respect for differences through dialogue. Create bridges, address conflict and promote collaboration amongst diverse groups. Capacity-building.
Approach
promoting regular exchanges and networking of representatives of religions and faith-based and cultural institutions, and, as appropriate, representatives of state and non-state institutions, universities, civil society actors and other individual experts.
Structure
A joint initiative of the Republic of Austria, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Spain. The Council of Parties is the organ of the Centre where the Parties to the agreement are represented, with the Holy See attending as Founding Observer. The Council convenes at least once a year. Its functions include the election of members of the Board of Directors and the appointment of the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General.
