World Festival of Sacred Music
WFSM began in 1999 as a one-time event in Los Angeles as a response to a letter from H.H. the Dalai Lama suggesting that every country greet the Millennium and recommit to peace and universal responsibility through programmes of music. Based on his idea, the Foundation of World Arts produced the 1999 Festival. Festivals were held in Los Angeles in 2002, 2005, and 2008, with one planned for October 1st through 16th, 2011. To date some 226 multidisciplinary events featuring 7,000 artists have taken place at 195 diverse venues across the city to a total attendance of 300,000.

Peace, understanding, and respect for all living things.
WFSM goal is to bring humanity closer together
Through the live performance of sacred music from around the world.
WFSM endeavours to help its audiences transcend borders of all kinds, linguistic, national, cultural, ideological, racial and religious in order to access our shared human values.
Themes of peace, tolerance and universal responsibility are reinforced and echoed throughout the Festival events
Achieved specifically through (1) diverse approaches to sacred music and dance, (2) programs unlikely to be presented to the public elsewhere, (3) programs combining more than one aesthetic or cultural approach, and (4) programs that build connections across cultures, faiths and aesthetic differences.
To date some 226 multidisciplinary events featuring 7,000 artists have taken place at 195 diverse venues across the city to a total attendance of 300,000. WFSM is thus the largest citywide festival in Los Angeles history
